Secretary Rubio Responds to Houthi Attack on Saudi Airport

The FAA warned airlines against travel to or near Saudi Arabia, and Delta postponed plans to offer nonstop service there.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded to attacks by Iran-backed Houthis of Yemen on the airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, over the weekend. The attack killed a dozen people, including one U.S. citizen. Over 300 people were injured.

Secretary Rubio stated on Saturday, “The United States strongly condemns the recent attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by the terrorist Houthis, including today’s strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that took numerous innocent lives, including an American citizen.”

The secretary of state continued, “These reprehensible attacks demonstrate a blatant disregard for innocent civilian life. They must stop now. We stand with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people and extend our condolences to the victims and their families.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned airlines regarding travel to or near Saudi Arabia after the attack, and Delta Airlines delayed its plan to offer nonstop air service from Atlanta to Riyadh from October 23 to March of next year.

The terrorist group conducted another attack on the airport on Sunday, which had been closed due to the first attack the day before. There were no known injuries in the second attack. The Houthis also attacked Saudi oil and gas fields and an airport in Dammam.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Rubio to be wise in his discussions with foreign ministers regarding the attacks by Houthi terrorists.
  • For Administrator Bedford as he issues travel advisories for U.S. airlines.
  • For President Trump as he considers options to address the Houthi attacks.
